Why I Chose the Name Atelier Marié
When I started sharing my art more publicly, I kept coming back to a feeling. It wasn’t loud or obvious. It was quiet, emotional, and hard to describe, but it stayed with me. This feeling wasn’t just about painting or drawing. It was about capturing something meaningful, a sense of warmth, memory, and beauty that lives in small, everyday moments.
That is where Marié comes in.
It is my second name, and one I have always felt connected to. Choosing it for my studio felt like the right way to honour something personal and close to my heart. It reflects the emotional tone behind my work and the kind of beauty I want to share. The name feels soft, nostalgic, and a little elegant, much like the moments I try to capture.
For me, Marié is not just a name. It is a thread that runs through so many of the memories that shaped me. I remember opera playing softly in the background, the scent of fresh flowers on the kitchen table, and the subtle beauty woven into everyday life with my family. I remember the charm of live performances, the warmth of a winter fireplace, and the comfort of time spent with a beloved pet. None of these moments were particularly grand, but they stayed with me. They are still what inspire me.
With Atelier Marié, I want to celebrate that kind of beauty, the kind that often goes unnoticed. A ripe piece of fruit, the drape of a curtain, the way sunlight hits the floor in the afternoon. These simple things carry meaning. They speak to memory and emotion in ways that words often cannot. I also want to make memories feel tangible, whether it is a café in Rome you will never forget, a bottle of wine tied to a perfect evening, or a sketch of a street scene that reminds you of a childhood dream to travel. My hope is that each piece feels like a doorway into a personal moment, an invitation to pause and feel something.
I am constantly inspired by the traditions of Western art and music. I look to Vermeer for his use of subject matter and stillness, Renoir for his softness and technique, and Monet for the atmosphere he creates. Music is also a big part of my process. I often paint while listening to classical pieces, opera, jazz, and French melodies by artists like Edith Piaf. The sounds help shape the mood of what I create.
The name Marié also carries deeper meanings. It has been linked to "star of the sea," "rebellious," and "wished-for child." I love that. It reflects the mix of strength and tenderness I try to bring into my work. I embrace contrast. Light and shadow, joy and melancholy, and everything in between. My goal is to reflect the complexity of emotion in a way that feels honest and timeless.
Atelier Marié is more than a studio. It is a space for reflection, creativity, and expression. A place where art is made with care, and where beauty, memory, and feeling are given room to breathe. Through my website and social media, I hope to keep building that experience, something gentle, thoughtful, and true to the spirit of my work.
If you are someone who finds meaning in simplicity, who feels drawn to quiet beauty and small details, then welcome.
I am so glad you are here.
